Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your first visit will begin with an initial evaluation. Your therapist will review your medical history, discuss your current concerns, and explore your personal goals. We’ll assess your strength, balance, and walking patterns to better understand your functional movement and areas for improvement. Your therapist will then lead you through exercises that best align with your plan. These exercises may include strength training, balance training, hiking, and outdoor yoga. We will also provide an estimate for how often you may benefit from follow-up sessions. We always respect your priorities and work with you to build a plan that feels right for your lifestyle and budget.

  • Your guide will review your background and discuss which activities you’d like to pursue, then offer guided outdoor activities such as hiking, outdoor yoga, or assistance with custom outdoor hobbies. Your guide will monitor your performance and provide support when needed, such as steadying your balance with a gait belt or assisting a weak leg to step over rocks or branches. We strive to facilitate safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences!

  • Prior to your appointment, we’ll agree on an outdoor location — typically a local or regional park near your general area. Your therapist may offer suggestions based on the difficulty of the trail terrain in some parks. Currently, we only offer services in the state of Indiana.

  • Some locations may require an entrance fee to access the property. Unfortunately this fee is not included in the price of your service, and will be your responsibility to provide to park staff upon arrival at the entrance station. We will do our best to alert you of these possible expenses in advance to avoid any surprises. Some parks offer annual memberships which are economic for frequent park visitors.

  • Prior to your appointment, your therapist will speak with you about equipment options such as hiking poles and all-terrain walkers that are available to use during your session. You will also be provided with a list of recommended items including a small backpack for carrying water, comfortable clothing and footwear, and any personal devices you use such as ankle braces. Other optional items include sunscreen, insect repellant, and small snacks. Caregivers may be permitted to join on a case-by-case basis depending on your specific needs and the discretion of your therapist.

  • Treehab operates rain or shine. We value the diversity in natural elements that are crucial for sustaining a living environment. We find beauty in the sunshine, and also in the life-giving, grounding qualities of rain. We do come prepared with options for rain jackets and umbrellas, and in winter months we offer options for heated jackets. We will make exceptions for extreme or hazardous weather conditions (such as storms) that may pose a threat to safety.

  • Treehab operates outside of the health insurance system. We use a direct-pay model, which means that we do not accept health insurance plans, but only personal transactions. This allows us to offer quality care without restrictions on number of visits or types of services.
